NO, I'm not falling away from God, I still love Him! But do watch this video..

I was browsing through Youtube (because I'm bored and lifeless) a few days ago and I came across a video with an interesting title: "10 questions that every intelligent Christian must answer". I didn't expect it to be some sort of a controversial video about Christianity when I clicked on it but it was, and I quite regretted watching it. But then again, it does ask some really good question and it does have some interesting points.

So for all Christians out there, watch this video with an open mind and do tell me what you think about it. Your feedbacks. I recommend that non-Christian to avoid watching this video, or even Christians who are not strong with their walk with God...as it could possibly make you weaker.

To be really honest, what the author says is quite true when it comes to us (Christians) trying to answer these kind of trivial, grey area questions. Many times I also find myself trying to find excuse for God if I'm faced with a question which I really don't know how to answer, or which is not possible to answer at all without contradicting our belives.

Then for his third question: "Why does God demand the death of so many innocent people in the Bible?", I find that it is really a good question. I do agree that some of the bible versus seems quite irrational, like:

[For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it must be put to death] - Exodus 35:2 (New International Version)). To simplify, God demands that we kill everyone who works on the Sabbath day. Yes I know Sabbath day is a holy day and supposed to be a day for God only, but isn't this abit too...harsh? In this world today, most businesses runs 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Most people find it quite impossible already. Or how about those bigger Church which employs people? - I believe they will also have some people working for them during Sundays, and I believe mostly all their employees will be their own Church member as well. But from another point of view, I also agree that this is caused by the world, it was surely different back then when people has less things to do and less responsibilities..the world became too advanced and fast paced?

and also:

[If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, 19 his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. 20 They shall say to the elders, "This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a profligate and a drunkard." 21 Then all the men of his town shall stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be afraid.] - Deuteronomy 21:18-21 (New International Version)
Or to simplify it, God demands that we kill disobedient teenagers. In this case, I believe many of us should be dead by now..right? I have been a stubborn and rebellious son, and I admit I still am sometimes. And I believe many of you too who are reading this right now. Sometimes this kind of verses really really scare you.

and then there's also this one:

[" 'If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.] - Leviticus 20:13 (New International Version)
In other words, God demands the death of homosexuals! We also don't see this happening, infact, there are Gay churches. Sometimes is abit contradicting, on one side people say that God loves everyone, even the homosexuals. But in this verse, God says they must be put to death.

and, for the most scarriest:

[ 13 If a man takes a wife and, after lying with her, dislikes her 14 and slanders her and gives her a bad name, saying, "I married this woman, but when I approached her, I did not find proof of her virginity," 15 then the girl's father and mother shall bring proof that she was a virgin to the town elders at the gate. 16 The girl's father will say to the elders, "I gave my daughter in marriage to this man, but he dislikes her. 17 Now he has slandered her and said, 'I did not find your daughter to be a virgin.' But here is the proof of my daughter's virginity." Then her parents shall display the cloth before the elders of the town, 18 and the elders shall take the man and punish him. 19 They shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver [a] and give them to the girl's father, because this man has given an Israelite virgin a bad name. She shall continue to be his wife; he must not divorce her as long as he lives.
20 If, however, the charge is true and no proof of the girl's virginity can be found, 21 she shall be brought to the door of her father's house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death. She has done a disgraceful thing in Israel by being promiscuous while still in her father's house. You must purge the evil from among you.] - Deuteronomy 22:13-21 (New International Version)
Like the video says..does God really demands that we kill girls who are not virgins when they marry? It doesn't say how about those who made a mistake and have already repented...will God still accept them back? I personally belive He will, as He is a loving God, but, this verse doesn't seem to accept that.

I really don't know. What do you all think? Watch the whole video and tell me what you think. There are some really good questions in there to make you ponder, and challenged us as a Christian. So watch it, and do leave a comment or so..

for your last question right:

this is what i think is the answer lah, but i dont know. its just my opinion.

i think its because that was the old testament, the old times when Jesus was not born yet and stuff, that's why the punishment was harsher, stoning to death and such.

premarital sex is one thing that God has mentioned many times about not doing, so in doing so, it is going against his 'rules'. it is still wrong today, just that society now view it as the norm, so they dont do stoning anymore.

i am sure God has a reason to put that into the bible. because His ways are always sovereign and we as humans can never be able to comprehend what He is doing, much more give a logical explanation for everything He does.

Miracles are illogical, but still we believe in it. it all boils down to faith. if we believe that God has a purpose for putting that in the bible, there must be a very good reason though it may not be logical enough for our human mind to comprehend.

just my two cents.

To add on to charissa's point. The answer to all those questions is because of sin!

You say God is a loving God therefore he cannot hate. But in order to love something, you need to hate another. For example, i love children, therefore i hate abortion. It's basically the same for God, he loves us all, but he hates sin. We were created given freewill, and we chose to sin.

Before Jesus came to die for us (old testament)there were laws that seems ruthless and evil (killing stoning etc,) because that's the consequences of our own sin. And that's how much God hates sin!

But now Jesus has died for us, our sins are all atoned for!

It will take forever for me try and explain everything here. But heres my 100 bucks.

When Joseph got sold by his brothers in Genesis 37, what would he have felt at that time?

However, later he became the Pharoah's 2nd man in command. It was God's plan for him to be sold at first as said in Genesis 45, thus saving many lives after that.

We do not now God's will many at times, but we always look at it at the bad perspective. Even thrown to prison by defamation, Joseph worshipped the Lord.

Makes me think of how little we know of God's will, rather we come up with illusion stories to cover up and delusion ourselves.

Do you get what i'm trying to say?

If we follow God's PERFECT will for us, we'll prosper in Him..

something like that...

Hmmm....well, this is an interesting video, but while the author of the video brings up interesting questions...lets take note that all of these has been asked before.

Admittingly, like what Charissa said, we don't know all the answers, but God isn't obligated to answer every question we ask anyway. Its like trying to put the ocean into a little hole we dig up at the seashore.

but for the sake of other Christians who aren't that strong in faith and for the sake of debate, then the simple answer to most of the questions ask like the first one about amputees and the other one where we get paychecks while the otherside of the world is suffering, is basically sin. Is it irrational to say that its not because of human kind's sin that the world is drastically unfair?

As for the Bible verses...the one regarding slavery, i believe its quoted out of context. If God advocates slavery, why would He ask Moses to free His people? Those part of Scripture isn't encouraging slavery but telling believers what to do under undesirable circumstances to please God.

Why do bad things happen to good people? Look at sin again. Why Jesus' miracles didn't leave any evidence? Why don't we ask how do we know that there are other planets beside the ones in our solar system? Do we need evidence for that?

Eating Jesus' body and drinking his blood....again quoted out of context. We all know he meant that symbolically. Moreover, science only tells us how things work...not define what is right or wrong.

Essentially, we don't know the answers to everything but if we really want answers we should try to find them under the right context.

This is for the benefit of those who aren't that strong in faith...for those who want more answers, they should research on it their own.

Oh Yeah..I got a debate going on here..good good..good for the brain.

I bring this video up because I myself also can't really answer some of these question. All I can answer to them (non-believers) is I have faith in God, is something like air, the wind, like hand phone/Wi-Fi signals all around. We can't feel it, we can't see it, we can't hear it, but we know it is there every morning when we wake up.

But these answers just aren't good enough for non-believers. They'll just flame us back saying we're dillusional and so on, but who am I to blame them? We too think people following other religions are also dillusional.

So actually the question is how do we convinced (these) people to believe in something/someone that is purely by Faith and through personal experience?

Sure you can say that we should pray cause prayer is everything, but prayer is like something to help back us up, like the management behind the sales team in a corporate company. What should those people infront do or say? Those infront facing the attacks..the first line of defense people - if you know what I mean.

But then again, the author did say that he assumes that his viewers "have been trained to think logically and rationally"..so if we do think logically and rationally..how can things like the sun can be created without the help of something supernatural - God? Logically, is impossible...

Prayer is never the back up! It IS the main plan... The back up is ourselves, where we do our own part and we leave the results to the Holy Spirit!

I have a book you might want to read

Maybe you can't literally see or hear God, but in my opinion, you definitely can FEEL God!

It's impossible NOT to..

We(humans) know so few of the solar system, up until now, how come they can't explain certain facts or matters? If they are so "logical, rational, intelligent" people who thinks they know everything, why haven't they figured out the answers yet?

At 6:56 PM, Blogger Jeffrey Lim said...

Huh?? No what. How can we use prayer to preach to people?? What I mean as prayer is a back up is..prayer is the one like is behind us. We should be the one to go out to preach and spread the Gospel right? Not prayer. So we are the one who are facing the "attacks"...not the prayers.

wow, i can see a number of people still cooking up excuses to try and make sense of God. obviously, i do know a bunch of friends who are still desperately praying so that they can get better results to go to an overseas uni and instead of studying they spend more time go yumcha and play football, etc.

Hi Anon..welcome to my blog, whoever you may be. =)

Well, those people here who had posted above, I really believe they're not "cooking up excuses to try and make sense of God", simply because we don't need too. For us, God is everything, we don't need to make sense of Him. We don't deny who is He, nor do we deny His existence and sovereignty.

Sure, as Christians we do fall, because we are humans and as long as we're on earth, we'll never be perfect. (Anyway if we were we would be standing right next to God up in heaven already instead of reading this post!). So please don't judge us, being a Christian doesn't make us perfect - like many people (like you) think so.

But anyway, this is MY own personal blog, and if it bothers you that I post about my religion and you have nothing nice to say about it, then please do choose someone elses blog to visit (and condemned).

Thanks for visitting my blog and God Bless you. =))

hi :) just my opinion here. and i'm not trying to "make sense" of God.

in the olden days, the people weren't as fortunate as we are today. they didn't have Jesus to die on the cross for our sins, as we do. when He died, he tore down the veil..now we're free from an eternity down there because HE died for our sins.

and really, who are we to question God..and how He decides to do things?
realise how miniscule, small, tiny tiny beings we are..and yet, He chose to be with us, among us.
God chose to send His son, to die on the cross for us.
we don't deserve it. never have, never will. God's love..His grace is indescribable.

trusting God without seeing..that's faith. choosing to trust without being skeptical..that is faith.

i have faith in God. do you?

to anonymous,
we are not 'cooking up excuses' nor making sense of God. We are merely fighting for what we believe in. God is God and his ways are too much for us to even TRY to comprehend, therefore making sense of Him is pretty impossible, i would say.
About those people who pray for good results and stuff; it just proves their dependence on God, which is good, because that is what God wants for us in the first place. Depending on Him, and letting Him run our life instead of making up ridiculous questions to question His purpose.
I would say that the person who recorded the video and said that we, as Christians, find excuses to defend and reason with the questions he posed has a huge disrespect for God because he is questioning the Almighty. You don't question the judge, you just carry out the sentence that was given to you.
